Being the music addict that I am, I’m always on the hunt for the next and “newest” music delivery services out there. Let’s face it, relying solely on your iPod shuffle can get old and disappointing fast. Plus, you can only listen to your same “go to” songs for your same default mood so many times. Enter Musicovery, and Ghostly.

Lately I’ve been hyped on playing my music, and discovering new artists based entirely on my mood. Ghostly’s iPhone App is defiantly to blame for starting this quest. The app allows you to select the tempo of the music you would like to listen to, the genre it will stem from, and your overall mood – based on color. The music that is provided back to you represents the current artists representing the Ghostly label roster. Yes it’s essentially a marketing tool made by Ghostly to push their artists, but their artists are amazingly talented (you should be listening to them anyway – especially Mobius Band ) AND it begs the question – why aren’t we all listening to ALL of our music this way?

Immediately I wanted to be able shuffle all of my own music by mood. I envisioned the hours and long nights I would spend coding the program to enable me to do such a beautiful thing. Oh, technology – you sexy bitch, you never fail me. This has already been done via musicovery. The iTunes plugin works simply and flawlessly, making an instant playlist based on tempo and your mood. (I’m not sure how you group your songs by mood, then by genre yet – or if that is even an option, but for now this still works just fine for me. More than fine, I don’t have to code it!) Currently the iTunes plugin only works for the Mac OSX, because win-blows.

The interactive web radio site is obviously available to all though, and easily allows genre categorization. The site is created by the merger of Pandora with Musicplasma (Musicplasma catalogs your favorite movies + your favorite music to show similarities between the two and offer suggestions as to what might also be of interest to you. It’s also cool to check out!) Both of these sites have come together to create Musicovery which brings you a fully customizable music player which should keep you satisfied, dancing, and entertained for at least a few days. (Day two myself..)

So, What are you waiting for? Go Try it out. Make sure you customize all of the available options to have the best musical experience possible. Start with setting the slider for the era you would like your music to come from, then select your mood, set your tempo, and if you would like – set your selective genres. Want less popular music? Hit the discovery button. Musicovery will get to know your tastes, similar to Pandora, if you let it by selecting that you heart or broken heart on each track you feel something strong for in either the love or hate direction. My current obsessions settings are: All era, dark and calm, electro & r&b, + discovery, -dance, -tempo. Take electro out, add similar artists and you have my other obsession. So far I have found two bands that i’m unsure how I ever lived without – and they are down tempo, which is shocking for me. More alarming is how I ever lived without this site since it was created in 2006.. As they say, better late than never..

I’ve written about Panoramio before. Though it is now owned by google, it often has better photos than google images itself. It won’t turn up anything for celebrity photos, or cutesy kitties though – this is simply for travel photos, and images of the world. So – If you’re an escapist and need help plotting your next breakout point via photos, or just want to freshen up the black 12×12 square that you stare at for 7.5 hours a day, this site is still for you..

I ended up at Panoramio again this morning when my desktop photo was lacking. As it’s freezing outside in New England, I’ve caught myself thinking of one of my favorite places nestled inside of my heart: The lovely Jensen Beach, located a stone’s throw from my grandfather’s house in Port Saint Lucie, FL. A quick google images search was embarrassing – try it for yourself. An even quicker Panoramio search was stunning and granted me this:

*Sigh* I love Panoramio, and I ache to be on this beach again ASAP.

I’m over a year late to talk about this, per usual, but certainly not all of you have realized this..

So this morning I sat down and forced myself to make some beats, thanks to my dear friend Nikki. I had been calling people out in our circle for not fully pursuing their dreams, while I, not realizing it, was doing the same thing. I’ve let music go to the wayside while I’ve focused more on my 8-4:30 job, and personal ish. So, like I said I sat down to make some beats. I’ve got my little Korg pad out, I’m fiddling around in reason, etc. I export my junk out and realize I need a little quirky sound sample. I try not to do this, it’s against my being to use stock samples, you really just are — an uncreative bitch. Against all my being I open up garageband to fiddle around. I’m fishing around under synths and I just about trip out.. I literally opened the intro to “love in this club” with the click of one button. Right below that, with another click, is basically the rest of the song. Seriously? Polow Da Don gets paid SIX FIGURES to produce tracks and he’s using the same STOCK SAMPLES that I have in my old ass Powerbook G4? (He denies he used garageband sounds, his keyboard just came pre programmed with those sounds, ah huh -- you try it on your garageband, you’ll see.) That’s sad. What’s really sad about it is that I could have made that song myself, and I didn’t. I’m too busy sitting here hating on Garageband and feeling like a sell out even tinkering around with their stock samples to ever make the song he did. Who’s laughing now? That song went straight to # 1 on billboard in 3 weeks, it made a ridiculous amount of money, and now crazy women want to bang ursher again, even though he’s a married player with swiftly declining game. The song brought Usher’s career back to life, without question. For this -- they paid no one for the sample because it came with their computers -- and they are millionaires for it. Lesson learned children: Being a hater don’t pay.

See how they did it, and how you can do it with your own mac here:

Try it for yourself:
Garageband
Lower Left Corner (Little Eye Ball)
Synths
Euro Hero Synth 2 (Intro)
Euro Hero Synth 3 (song)
Align them together into a new track.

Now you can cry along with me that you didn’t put two stock garageband sounds together and get yourself out the hood.

Google Gmail AutopilotTM by CADIE – Google’s attempt at humor – April Fools Bitches. As if Gmail would scan every one of your incoming messages and automatically send the perfect reply.. Could have been funnier, as they have been in the past.. My mom did a better job with the fools day growing up. Every year she would put the damn saran wrap on the toilet seat. I fell for it, every. year. I never turn on lights when I walk into a room, and I would get read for school at 5:45AM. April 1 – inevitable – peed on myself. Love you mom.

Like anything in life Wordpress.Org comes with it’s pluses and minuses. It seems that the Wordpress.Org blog system is more true to my own real life then any blog medium I have used; in that I have to learn everything the hard way, everything I have here I had to work hard for it. With Blogger, or Livejournal everything is a simple two clicks away. With Wordpress.Org you have to read, understand the English language, follow a road map – hop, skip, jump, and then in the end you make your final two clicks to get to your end result. While all of this proves to be more work then the typical blog software, for some strange reason i’m not bothered by the extra work. I guess because at the end of the extra steps I feel a sense of accomplishment, more so then I did before with checking a simple box which then allowed me to mobile upload my posts on my previous blog systems. Vs. Wordpress.Org. Where I read everything I could google on the topic and battled for a week until finally I learned about posterous.

With posterous I can simply email a picture to post@posterous.com and my photo is then published on my blog. Simple. Just like anyone who is blogging with Blogger, LJ, or Tumblr. Yet, with Wordpress this really was a pain of unnecessary proportions until posterous. I know there are plenty of people out there who will appreciate this news, and who will appreciate this tutorial even more. I won’t attempt to explain posterous better then the esdev.net tutorial does, because it’s almost flawless. I will only add that if you want to post from your cell phone – and you are simply TEXTING in your posts with an old phone vs. emailing them with a blackberry, iPhone, Smartphone, etc. you will NEED to confirm your cell phone number as an email address. I had to email posterous customer service (help@posterous.com) in order to get my cell phone number approved. You will need to get your cell phone number’s email address from your carrier if you don’t know it. If you have verizion it should be yourcellphonenumber@vzwpix.com. Once your cell phone is approved as an email sender you can post pictures and emails from your cell phone as a text message to your blog as a post. This is extremely beneficial to people who haven’t/refuse to upgrade their phones to mobile web capabilities and only have Text/SMS/EMS capabilities. While there are millions of iPhone & crackberry loving people out there – if you can imagine a stone age taking place all around you – some of us still only have flip phones that only send stale old text messages and this work around is crucial for us!

If you don’t have a blog, but are a fan of social networking sites – Posterous is also good for cross posting to facebook, twitter, Flickr, tumblr, Blogger, Wordpress, Moveable Type, Typepad, LiveJournal, Xanga, and Shopify. Meaning that you can upload messages, photos, videos, and mp3s to all of these mediums AT ONCE by sending the content to ONE email address. Brilliant. I am Pro Posterous!
