HOT OFF THE I SHOULD CHECK MY MYSPACE EMAIL MORE OFTEN PRESS!
“we JUST got the masters to my record so we’re listening to the album from front to back mastered for the first time ever and I am SO psyched!…The boys keep laughing that my album is for GIRLS fo’ SHO!..”
It’s real, PROOF, an album is really coming!?! That would be an exert of an email from the one and only AMANDA BLANK. Why hasn’t life allowed me 5 minutes to write about this pint sized talent?? Scratch that, I am MAKING the time, Right now.
Let me introduce to you.
If you don’t know, now you know: Miss Amanda Blank.
Please click the photo below to read the article, circa 2007, which is just after I first fell in love with this little powerhouse. I first heard this girl spit in 2006 but this is how I first saw Miss B. Since first impressions can be errything with musicians, I think you should first see her this way too, you know, if this is your first time..
Now immediately go here & watch The Fader interview, and fall in love with this ball of personality.
(Observe and Respect the claws)
What’s the Stats you Say?
Where you might recognize her: Fast hot verses on Spank Rock’s tracks, and blowing your mind with gyrating lady hips at Spank’s live shows. (S’RO is her BFF) Some notable tracks she’s appeared on are “Bump” off of Spank’s album YoYoYoYoYo released in 2006, “Loose” off the Spank Rock and Benny Blanco are Bangers & Cash EP, I’m a Lady – Santogold Mixtape – Diplo Remix (I told homegirl personally that this track had been missing a lil’ something, and THIS intro she did was IT – a nod to LL COOL J never hurts either – note to self, you up & coming rappers!) Get it Now (Who samples HEART in hip hop? THIS GIRL), and Super Freak (Remix) – (Which can be found on the Observe and Report movie soundtrack and is highlighted IN the movie.) Both of these songs EASILY highlight how unique and talented this female is, and how necessary she is to the game. If you’re broke (I feel you) and can’t buy her (truly her peeps, as she appears on those songs) music from the iTunes links – Please peep her myspace and at least give her tunes a listen.
Who she rolls with: Spank Rock, Delvin and Darko, Plastic Little, Ghostface Killah, M.I.A., Santogold, Teki Latex, Aaron LaCrate & Low Budget (Hollertronix), XXXChange of Spank Rock, Diplo, and Dave Sitek. (These last three talented folks produced her solo album.)
Where to look for her: Roaming about Philadelphia, PA representing the city of brotherly love until her first supporting tour with Santigold starts. Her first album is set for release from Downtown (who isn’t hot on this label) Records on July 19th, 2009. The album is titled “I Love You” featuring guests: Spank Rock, Santigold, Lykke Li and the Cool Kids. Her first Official Single is called “Might Like You Better” which can be heard now here via rcrdlbl.com. You can also download the track from their website, a link is provided there. For serious, you might like homegirl better then anything you’ve heard in the last few years. If you head out to see Santigold this summer PLEASE GO EARLY and support my girl Amanda B who will prove to be the truth.

It’s a lackluster time for mainstream female rappers, with M.C.’s like Foxy Brown and Remy Ma making more headlines for jail stints than for their music. Lil’ Kim hasn’t gone platinum since 2003, Eve’s comeback album has been delayed several times, and Missy Elliott’s first record in three years isn’t due until late spring. Fergie, with her singsong chants about her feminine wiles, is the closest thing to a female rap superstar these days. But in the wake of the critical favorite M.I.A., a new crop of young, multicultural, female hip-hop acts is causing a stir on the Internet and in indie-label conference rooms…[Full article here]..
What we have here is a situation known as “leaving the door open”. When there is a dry spell on industry talent you leave room for “new” fresh talent to step the fuck up, or “cut the fuck up And knock the fuck down” as the case may be. I suspect that I love you’s mass appeal will be directly reflective of how much pop this album actually has (Read: Mainstream Marketability). Not everyone can handle Miss B, but really she’s for the children anyhow, teaching them lessons on the daily like to “fuck to bust nuts, fuck a man’s respect.” I should have wrote about mamma at LEAST two years go – but better late then never (READ: before she’s a household name AKA: This Summer) Try to see her live before then! & If you see her out and about say Hi, Mamma is actually an absolute, total SWEETHEART. Word.
